Sensing technologies

Healthy active ageing

PRESENTERS

ON THE SOLUTION PROVIDED

Presentation of sensing technologies, which include electrophysiological and electrochemical sensors. Explanation of technologies based on various fields of application to detect biomarkers related to stress, fatigue, hydration, glucose, cardiac frequency, temperature etc.

ORGANISED BY

Tecnalia Research & Innovation

This is a combination of technological solutions to assist people with healthy ageing, by preventing risks and illnesses, maintaining their physical and cognitive capacities, and also maintaining their activity and social participation. Our offer combines solutions for healthy eating, prevention of falls, health monitoring, optimised physical and cognitive training, prevention of occupational injuries and mobility in urban environments.

Value proposition and applicability:

  • Healthier foodstuffs, balanced, with a greater nutritional value (less fat, foodstuffs with a high fibre content, omega-3 etc. Active compounds (with sterols, probiotics, vitamins, symbiotics etc.) with an impact on the prevention of high-incidence afflictions: metabolic syndrome, cancer, cardiovascular ailments etc.
  • Assessment and physical training to prevent falls: A system to assess the risk of falls and training of postural control/balance with generation of disruptions combining physical and cognitive exercise through virtual reality. Optimisation of strength training for elderly people with a combination of electromyography, accelerometry, dynamometry and electrical stimulation; processing with artificial intelligence algorithms to determine the ideal training frequency for each person and group of muscles.
  • Cognitive and sensory training: Platform to create customised contents for cognitive training using VR and/or AR technology. Electrotactile feedback (sensory memory, reinforcement learning).
  • Health monitoring using electrophysiological and electrochemical sensors: Biosensors based on a multi-electrode patch to detect biomarkers related to stress (Cortisol), fatigue (lactate), hydration (sodium), cardiac frequency, temperature etc. Wearable solutions capable of detecting risk factors in elderly people.
  • Tool for urban planning for elderly-friendly cities based on digital-twin technology. Friendly-route planner for the elderly to assist their movement throughout the environment.

In Tecnalia's Pharma Lab Area we also work on design and development of medication specifically targeting the elderly, making it easier to take, and also to maintain treatments, in more user-friendly pharmaceutical formats. This option also includes 3D drug-printing technology to help generate a more personalised format for medication scenarios such as polymedication.
