Itziar Vergara is a family doctor, and holds a Master's in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Medical Ph.D. from the University of the Basque Country. She has been scientific director of Health Research Institute Biogipuzkoa (formerly Biodonostia) since 2022.
She is a member of the Spanish Primary Health Care Research Network RICAPPS, and coordinator of the Primary Healthcare research team at the aforementioned institute. Her line of research seeks to promote healthy ageing, and focus on fragility in primary healthcare.
