Sonia de Paz Cobo holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Madrid's Universidad Autónoma, and another in Actuarial Science and Finance from Universidad Complutense, Madrid.
She also earned a Ph.D. in Economics from this university, with a doctoral thesis on "Alternative transfer of risks" which won an award from Spain's Royal Academy of Doctors for best Social Sciences thesis, and from the International Insurers' Club for best research into Finance and Insurance.
She currently lectures in statistics in the Department of Applied Economics I and Economic Institutions and History at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
One of her lines of research is the "silver" economy and living conditions in relation to demographic ageing. In this area she worked in two research posts at the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions in Dublin.
